Sunday Summary – Cheshire Cat

February 28th, 2010

A week ago I decided to model the Cheshire Cat from American McGee’s Alice.  I aimed to both model and texture it by today.

I’d actually like to take it into Zbrush to remodel the low poly version (screens below) and produce a high poly sculpt; which, in order to avoid redoing work, I will need to do before the texturing phase.

Here are the finished images.

As I only achieved half of the projects undertaking, I’ll award myself…

Cheshire Cat Progress

February 24th, 2010

Back in 2000, American McGee’s Alice came out; a fantastic disturbing reinterpretation of Alice in Wonderland.  I decided to focus on the cheshire cat from the game.  I did some scribbling and gathered some excellent reference from various websites, including this old concept image of the cheshire cat from the first game which is being used to model of for the games sequel, which is in production in Shanghai.

It’s a really fantastic sketch, and idea for modelling from, so I scrapped my far inferior sketches and decided to follow in the lucky footsteps of the 3d artist working for Spicy Horse, and model from this concept.

It’s been about 3 quarters of a year since I did any 3d modelling, so I’m pretty rusty and slow.  However I’m enjoying the process, although considering this weeks schedule, I wonder if I will have it finished before Sunday.  Sunday was the goal, so I’ll just have to work hard to achieve it as best I can.  I’d like to do a Zbrush sculpt too, maybe next week.  I’m really looking forward to that part.

Without further ado, here’s my progress:

A peaceful Storm

January 6th, 2010

I love storms.  Being outside at the mercy of violent storms have to be among the best experiences I’ve enjoyed.  It’s good to be painting again.  Got the ball rolling with this one.  Crit welcome, as usual.

Yesterday I was playing in photoshop and created this concept for a new kiamo.co.uk theme.  I feel a bit unsure about it.  While I do like it, it somehow doesn’t feel completely appropriate.

What are your thoughts?

I’m thinking I’ll turn it into a wordpress theme regardless of whether or not I’ll use it.  You know… just for practice, and fun.

I started this one at the end of last summer, but no matter how long i spent at it I couldn’t get something that felt “finished”.

Nearly a year later I decided to revisit it and I reckon I’m finally done with it :D

crit welcome =]

Base Mesh

April 7th, 2009

Today I started working on an image I have in mind.  I don’t think I’ll let on to what it is yet, but I’ll post development shots as I go to keep you guessing.

The model has been done in zbrush entirely so far.  I don’t plan on taking it out for anything other than UVing.

Skull Turntable

April 5th, 2009

I’ve been playing with zbrush quite a lot recently, but mostly just experimenting.  Nothing new worth showing so I thought I just share a turntable of the skull.

Mostly just because I haven’t uploaded a video to my blog before and I want to see how it works hehe.

note: Just using a site like youtube or something worked out much better.
